Nathan van der Raaij is an associate at bureau Brandeis. He specialises in corporate and commercial litigation.

In particular Nathan has a focus on complex multi-jurisdictional litigation, including class actions and antitrust damages litigation. He is involved as counsel to plaintiffs in multiple proceedings under the WAMCA, the new Dutch regime for collective redress introduced in 2020. Nathan also regularly acts in director’s liability cases and shareholders’ disputes.

Nathan obtained his master’s degree in European Law at the Leiden Law School of the University of Leiden. During his master’s studies he had a special focus on European competition law. Prior to his master’s Nathan studied at the VU University of Amsterdam (bachelor) and a semester at the University of Padova in Italy where he studied international trade law.

In 2013 Nathan founded a student-run platform that provides legal advice in English to expats, international students and start-ups. The legal services varied from advising in consumer issues to the drafting of contracts. As a native English speaker Nathan is adept at explaining Dutch law to international clients. Nathan is also a regular contributor to Q Class Actions, bureau Brandeis’ journal on class actions and antitrust damages litigation.

Nathan joined bureau Brandeis in June 2017.

Recent work:

• Nathan has been involved in various class actions under the WAMCA and cartel damage cases, such as the Diesel scandal, TikTok and the Trucks cartel.
• Nathan is involved in a complex multi-jurisdictional execution procedure on behalf of a charitable organisation.
• Nathan successfully assisted a US company that helps institutional investors recover their claims in class actions and mass settlements in the Fortis settlement.
